Being The Best You Can Be
By: David Collins PGA Golf Professional
Long hitters usually dominate at Augusta National but this year Zach Johnson beat the odds. WHY? Zach Johnson won the Masters through his preparation. His coach was on the radio and mentioned that Zach had a pow wow with his brain trust and one of the things that came out of it was that Zach was not birdying enough par 5’s. So what did he do, practiced his wedges. And sure enough, that was the difference. Zach birdied 11 out of 16 par fives over the four days and he laid up on all 16. So practicing paid off handsomely.
I am going to change sports to baseball. I was watching the Boston Red Sox’s on Fox a couple of weekends ago and Tim McCarver (Announcer) brought up how Carl Yastrzemski took extra batting practice during the World Series.(1967) McCarver mentioned that some Major Leaguers would take extra practice in April but never late in the season. That particular day, Yaz hit two home runs.
Most business professionals can’t really practice but we can execute. We can take the extra time. As you watched The Masters you saw IBM’s commercial about execution. How every one has the same products and markets the same but it comes down to execution. If we want to compete and win, we need to execute. To beat the favorite in our industry we need to do the little things that matter. We need to pick up the phone and say thank you. We need to send our clients leads that can increase their business. We need to think what is best for them when doing business. We need to be passionate about our clients business.
OK, I am sure you get the point.
Money Making Tip: Invite a client out for a round of golf and fill out the foursome with two others that could help your client. Do this for every client and you might not win the Green Jacket but you will be able to afford to buy one.
Money Saving Tip: Buy those client rounds at Eagle Creek and save. Give me a call at 407-273-0210 and I will custom design a program for you. (10 rounds for as little as $400.00)
