Eagle Creek Golf Club, A Course Of Firsts,
Officially Opens In Southeast Orlando
ORLANDO, FL - The much-anticipated official opening of Eagle
Creek Golf Club and its vintage New England manor-style
clubhouse in Southeast Orlando takes place today.
The initial golf event to have full run of the Eagle Creek
complex is the Arnold Palmer Childrens Hospital Charity
Classic, which tees off at 8:30.
We are thrilled with the final product, said
General Manager Gary Piotrowski. I look at the clubhouse
as it stands now and think back to
a year ago when we could only imagine this sight. We are
very excited that this day has finally arrived.
The golf course has hosted some limited play in recent weeks,
and reviews have been outstanding. It is a fun course
to play, said Jim Gleason of Lake Mary, FL. There
is plenty of room off the tee, but the challenge comes on
the approach shots. You have to hit the right places on
the greens or you may have trouble making par.
Eagle Creek is awesome, said Jeff Parkinson
of Ohio. Great layout. Super condition. The greens
are so true. Its hard to believe they are brand new.
Its a lot of fun to play. Well be back here
next year.
Eagle Creek is a fascinating Ron Garl/Howard Swan design
located on Narcoosssee Road near prestigious Lake Nona.
The 7,198-yard, par-73
layout is a strategically demanding yet very playable golf
course, featuring ample landing areas and challenging green
complexes. Swan's
European background is apparent in the course's bunkering,
as many of the 90 sand bunkers are revetted, creating challenging
recovery shots.
The first unique aspect of Eagle Creek is the grass on its
greens.
Eagle Creek is the first course in Florida to offer Mini
Verde, the fifth type of ultra dwarf Bermuda in existence.
Mini Verde provides extremely durable and fast-rolling putting
surfaces, according to results seen in other parts of the
south.
Says Eagle Creek Golf Course Superintendent Buck Buckner,
formerly of Isleworth Country Club in Orlando, Mini
Verde will tolerate low mowing heights which equates to
faster greens. And, the putting surfaces will have a darker
green color. The result for golfers is a very enjoyable
putting experience.
Five other states Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina,
Arizona and Louisiana, - feature courses with Mini Verde
greens. There will be many
more in the future. Another first among Central
Florida courses is the use of Club Cars
high-end Precedent, a completely re-deigned golf car, so
different that it required a brand new manufacturing plant
to produce it. Precedent
will provide Eagle Creek customers a ride and drive similar
to that of an automobile. Golfers will notice several features
on the car that
will make the golf experience more enjoyable and comfortable.
We're delighted that Eagle Creek has chosen Club Car
and our new Precedent golf car, said Bill Gordon,
Branch Manager for Club Car
Florida. Precedent represents a quantum leap in golf
car design and certainly reinforces Eagle Creek's commitment
to providing the finest
products and services to enhance the golf experience.
Precedent was introduced at the NGCOA Solutions Summit in
January, and Eagle Creek is among the first courses in the
country to contract for
the high-end cars.
A third very unique aspect of Eagle Creek is its total par.
With five par 5s, Eagle Creek plays to a par 73, the
only course in Central Florida to do so. Golfers generally
favor par 5s, and none will be more enjoyable than
the terrific finishing hole. The 483-yard par 5 offers golfers
a chance to finish in glory, reaching the green in two.
But the sloping putting surface is bordered in front and
to the right by water, requiring extreme accuracy on the
approach.
The unique experience also will be evident in the tournament
service package created by PGA Professional Tony Crawford
and his staff. It is
called Five Star Tournament Service, and thats exactly
what event organizers will experience.
"Tournaments and events will be a big part of our business,"
said Crawford. "We want to deliver a product so impressive
and consistent that the groups will return year after year."
The concept of Eagle Creek's Five Star Tournament Service
is based on the need for tournament organizers to feel they
have created a partnership with the golf venue hosting their
event. Among the key features are Professional meet-and-greet
service with personal welcome
message on golf carts; Golf bag set up with personalized
bag tags; Private pre-tournament practice area with golf
pro instruction tips;
Full time event manager providing welcome and review of
tournament rules before start of play. Preloading services
including two iced coolers on carts, goody bags, gifts and
rental clubs; Computerized GPS Yardage System with Tournament
Leaderboard; Private food & beverage areas for pre-
and post-tournament functions; PGA Scorecast Scoring System,
and complimentary hole-in-one contest for an automobile.
One other unique aspect: There isnt another clubhouse
in Central Florida quite like Eagle Creeks, a vintage
New England manor in
appearance overlooking the 18th hole. It features a 120-seat
restaurant, a banquet room that accommodates 50 people,
men's and women's locker rooms and a fully stocked pro shop.
In addition, Eagle Creek is an Audubon International Silver
Signature course.
Eagle Creek's location, just 12 minutes from the Orlando
International Airport, makes it a natural site for group
outings and convention golfers. It is destined to become
a favorite of the locals as well.
The golf course is "Distinctive Orlando Golf With A
European Flair." It is designed to blend unobtrusively
with the soon-to-be built homes in the master-planned Eagle
Creek Golf Community. Homebuyers will have the option of
choosing from different communities that will make up Eagle
Creek. In addition, there will be a community park and recreation
center for residents.
